Wanted…

Hello. This is the first WEXO Blog entry! It’s been about eight and a half months now since the idea was conceived and by default we’re getting to the stage where we’re almost ready to give it life. In some ways, as in Mary Shelley’s novel , what we’ve really done is created a ‘monster’; only for us it’s more than that. Johnny Cash said of Frankenstein, his favourite film starring Boris Karloff, that the idea of a gentle figure being mistaken for a monster spoke to him at a personal level. We hope our attempts to take on the behemoths speak to you at a more personal level and that we can help present the often acerbic practice of finding work experience in a gentler more digestible format….

Enough of such twaddle, the most interesting thing I found out today was whilst trying to pad out the pages that Ben (you can meet all the team in the “About” section) has diligently developed. Part of this meant writing some copy and finding some “News” items – Andy had told me in no uncertain terms that until I’d done this he wouldn’t finish the ‘HTML’ (oh for the alpine days when this acronym meant no more to me than ”CSIA’ had when I was a broker). So while I was trawling the depths of Google for relevant news items (see News), I stumbled across a piece in the Independent that not only examined Ken Livingstone’s controversial views on career advisers (which brings to mind another Boris – are all Boris’s look like oafs?) but also touched upon a study from school careers information service b-live.com that suggested the Top 10 most wanted jobs as:

1 Actor/actress
2 Sportsman/sportswoman
3 Lawyer (barrister/solicitor)
4 Accountant
5 Teacher/lecturer
6 Doctor
7 Beauty therapist
8 Singer/musician
9 Designer
10 Police force

Well, we’ll just have to bear that in mind. The good news is we are already in the process of signing up designers, lawyers, accountants, make-up artists and music labels. I’ll be speaking to an ex-girlfriend who is a doctor on Saturday so she might be able to help on that front (but only after she’s told me why I’m not invited to her wedding) and that will bring us up to 60% (which I’ve always considered more than respectable). But, if I then get on to the my friend Katie about opportunities at her sporting events company, I’m sure Harry knows some of the Working Title lot. And then that just leaves err…. Police and Teachers??? I must be getting old.

More another time but for the moment you can reach us at info@wexo.co.uk or to stay up to date go to the “Contact” page, enter your email (and anything else you have to give) and we’ll keep you posted on our progress…
